Major operation at the Alpine Clinic: a heavily pregnant woman tries to help a paraglider who has crashed and injures herself badly. Dr. Daniel Guth can only save her baby. While he and clinic manager Miriam search for the child's father, senior physician Dr. Linda Singer falls in love with the extreme sportsman entrusted to her care. When Miriam's son's girlfriend collapses with abdominal cramps, Dr. Guth suspects a hereditary disease. And there also seems to be something wrong with the photographer Nadja, who is visiting her brother, Mayor Rosner.

After an alleged malpractice that led to the death of his brother, heart surgeon Daniel Guth took the consequences: he gave up his beloved job and retreated into the solitude of nature. At his place of refuge, the Salzburg mountains, the heiress to a private clinic is desperately looking for a capable chief physician. Daniel declines the post, although he finds the woman attractive. When a boy is seriously injured in a bus accident, he is confronted with his trauma again.

Poet Hermann Lons is turning 40. On his birthday, his childhood love, Rosemarie, unexpectedly to visit her cousin (who just happens to be Hermann's wife). Rosemarie and Hermann walk through the Luneburger Heide every day and it isn't long before their old love flares up again. Hermann is rather annoyed about that and asks the woman to leave. His decision, however, brings him no joy. Luckily, he's able to deal with his grief by writing poetry, which brings him some success. But now his life is one big, melancholy drama, punctuated by too much alcohol. When Hermann eventually learns that Rosemarie has gotten engaged to Hermann's hunting buddy, Prince Niko, he realizes he wants to ask his wife for a divorce and chase after his former lover. Luckily(?), Rosemarie puts the brakes on the whole thing saying it's too late for them.
